Substance Use Disorder

Guiding You to a New Comfort Zone

About SUD

A substance use disorder (SUD) is a mental condition that leads to a person’s inability to control their use of substances such as drugs and alcohol. Additionally, it is proven that addictions frequently occur alongside mood or anxiety disorders. If you treat the addiction without addressing the underlying trauma, anxiety, or mood issues, then you are at higher risk of relapsing and it may be more difficult to stay in recovery.

How Hopemark Treats SUD

At Hopemark, we understand the importance in treating the underlying conditions and therefore we use a comprehensive and integrated treatment method involving testing, psychotherapy, and medication/treatment management overseen by board-certified psychiatrists. We treat SUDs with comprehensive mental health care –  including novel treatments – with the help of specialists in addiction, which gives you the best chance of success.

Treatment options include, but are not limited to:

Ketamine Infusions

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Oral medication options

Treatments specific for opioid use:

  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT): using buprenorphine oral products, intramuscular (IM) monthly buprenorphine injections (i.e., Sublocade), and IM monthly injections of naltrexone (i.e., Vivitrol).
  • Neuromodulation devices: (either the NSS-2 Bridge Device or the S.T. Genesis device). These provide immediate relief of opioid withdrawal symptoms for up to 5 days per device.

Ask your provider for more information on neuromodulation devices.

*IM monthly injection of naltrexone (i.e., Vivitrol) is FDA approved for both alcohol use disorder as well as opioid use disorder.

How Ketamine Infusion Therapy Treats Alcohol Use Disorders

Ketamine helps Alcohol Use Disorder by lowering cravings and withdrawal symptoms.  It has been proven to decrease drinking when administered in conjunction with psychotherapy. It balances the glutamate and GABA neurotransmitters and creates neuroplasticity, or formation of neuronal transmission channels. This allows one to accelerate the adoption of new behaviors and thoughts.

Ketamine quickly reduces the mood/anxiety disorder that might be present, which makes it easier to stay sober. IV Ketamine has evidence to support its use in other SUDs including to help detox off of opioids or sedatives, and to help lower cocaine or stimulant use.

SAMHSA’s National Helpline is a free, confidential, 24/7, 365-day-a-year treatment referral and information service (in English and Spanish) for individuals and families facing mental and/or substance use disorders.
